An Ohio man was arrested and charged with assault in a gang-related stabbing in broad daylight on West Main Street in Riverhead Monday, police said.

Riverhead Town police said the victim is a self-professed Latin King gang member and had cursed at a man whom he believed to be a member of the Crips.

In the confrontation that followed, police said the victim, Brian Catillo, 30, of Riverhead, was stabbed three times.

He was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

Police arrested Philippe Robinette, 26, of Akron, who fled the scene after the attack.

He was charged with second-degree assault in connection with the stabbing, which occurred at 12:48 p.m. "in the middle of West Main Street," police said.

Arraigned Monday, Robinette was ordered remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bail, police said.
