Old Field residents will see a slight increase in the village portion of their tax bills.
The village board last month unanimously approved a new budget that takes effect on March 1 and is virtually unchanged from the current budget, Mayor Michael Levine said. Village taxes will go up by 1.3 percent.

Village spending next year will go up by 3.4 percent, from $1,078,820.50 to $1,115,500, village Treasurer Andrea Podolsky said.

The village’s biggest expense is its annual payment to the Setauket Fire District, Levine said. The village pays the district about $417,000.

Besides the fire district payment, the village also employs 12 people, including a chief of constables, eight village constables, a village justice court clerk, a village clerk and a treasurer. Both clerks and the treasurer work part time. Levine and village trustees are unpaid.

“We’re a no-frills operation,” Levine said.
