A pedestrian was taken to a hospital early Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle on Route 231 south of Sunrise Highway on the North Babylon-West Islip line.

Suffolk County police said the accident occurred about a quarter-mile south of Sunrise at 4:11 a.m. Police said the crash closed the northbound roadway.

The victim, a man, was not seriously injured, and the motorist stopped after hitting him, police said.

The pedestrian was taken to nearby Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, police said.

There was no apparent criminality in the accident, police said.
