One person was hospitalized and Route 25A in St. James was closed for several hours after a car struck a utility pole Friday, knocking down wires, Suffolk County police said.

The single-car crash on North Country Road at Howell Drive was reported in a 911 call at 12:16 a.m., police said.

Police said the caller reported live wires on top of the vehicle.

One person in the car, whose identity was not released, was taken to a hospital.

It was not known if there were any other passengers in the vehicle. The condition of the injured person was not known.

The road was reopened and repairs made in time for the morning rush hour.

The Long Island Power Authority was reporting no outages as of 6:30 a.m. Friday.
