One seriously hurt in dump truck crash
A driver was seriously injured when his car was struck by a dump truck Monday afternoon in Central Islip, police said.
Suffolk County police Third Squad detectives are investigating the 12:20 p.m. crash at Carleton Avenue and Smith Street; officials said there were no other injuries.
Paul Harris, 57, of Central Islip, was heading east on Smith in his 1996 Cadillac DeVille when a 1997 Mack recycling dump truck heading north on Carleton hit the Cadillac, police said in a news release.
Harris was taken by ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was listed in serious condition. Truck driver Scott Keyser, 51, of Flanders, was not injured. Winter Brothers Recycling Corp. owns the truck, which was inspected, police said. The truck and car were impounded for a safety check, police said.
Anyone with information about the accident is urged to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain anonymous.
