Parolee grapples with arresting Suffolk officers

A parolee was arrested after he attacked two Suffolk police officers during a Friday night traffic stop in Central Islip, authorities said.

Officers Timothy Drake and Michael Cammarata were on patrol near Prospect Avenue and Willow Street at about 6 p.m. when they noticed "excessive tinted windows" on a 1998 Lexus driven by Dwayne Murray, 23, of Coram, according to police.

Police said the officers pulled Murray over and saw a handgun in the vehicle. When they tried to arrest Murray, he resisted, grabbing Drake's Taser.

He aimed the Taser at the officers, but when it didn't fire he threw it to the ground, police said.

Police said other officers responded to the incident and helped subdue Murray.

Drake, Cammarata and Murray were treated at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for minor injuries and released, police said.

Murray was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree robbery, second-degree menacing, resisting arrest and marijuana possession. He was on parole for first-degree assault and armed robbery, police said.

Murray was arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Central Islip.
