A North Babylon man died Friday night after his motorcycle crashed into a guardrail on Nicolls Road near Stony Brook University, Suffolk police said.

Thomas Macca, 31, was driving a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Nicolls Road near the university entrance in Stony Brook when he apparently lost control and crashed into a wire cable on the center median of the road about 6:10 p.m., police said.

Macca was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he died of his injuries.

The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check, police said. Anyone that witnessed the crash but has not yet been interviewed by detectives is asked to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
