Cops: Driver dies after medical emergency, crash in Patchogue
A 77-year-old driver died after suffering a medical emergency in a Patchogue shopping center parking lot Saturday evening and crashing into a parking lot sign post, Suffolk County police said.
The man was the sole occupant of a 2006 Mini Cooper when it crashed. He was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue where he was pronounced dead, according to the police.
The crash occurred about 6 p.m. at 440 Route 27, a shopping center on the south side of Sunrise Highway near Waverly Avenue, according to police and maps.
Police were not identifying the victim until after notifying his next of kin. Detectives asked anyone with information to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
