A Patchogue man has died after being critically injured early Monday morning when police said he crashed into a vacant shoe store that closed last year.

Police said Scott Letizia, 42, was speeding south on Ocean Avenue when he lost control and crashed his 2017 Honda Accord shortly after 5:30 a.m. into the building at the corner with Main Street.

He was taken in critical condition to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk, and succumbed to his injuries, police said in a Tuesday news release.

The storefront at 14 Ocean Ave. housed Richard York of Patchogue Shoes, which closed last year after 96 years in business. The building was listed for lease in downtown Patchogue.

The crash severely damaged the storefront.

Police ask anyone with information to call detectives at 631-854-8552.
