A Shirley man died Thursday after he lost control of his pickup truck and it flipped from Sunrise Highway onto the service road in North Patchogue, Suffolk police said.

Fifth Precinct detectives  were investigating whether Anthony Orlando, 52, experienced a medical event when his Ford veered  of the eastbound lanes about 5 p.m., just east of Waverly Avenue, police said.

His pickup overturned and landed on the median separating the highway from the service road, police said.

Orlando was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

An extended backup could be seen following the crash as only one lane of eastbound Sunrise was open and the rest, including the service road, were closed to traffic.

The Ford was impounded for a safety check, police said.
