Patchogue man hospitalized after cigarette burn
A man was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center late Monday night after police said he apparently accidentally set himself on fire with a cigarette inside his home in Patchogue.
The identity of the burn victim has not been released. His condition was not known Tuesday morning.
Suffolk County police said the incident inside the home on Waverly Avenue was reported in a 911 call at 11:04 p.m.
Police and firefighters arrived to find the victim suffering from burns inflicted when he apparently fell asleep while smoking a cigarette.
It also was not clear if the house was damaged by fire.
The case remains under investigation, police said.
