A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday morning after he struck a pickup truck making a left turn in Ronkonkoma, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

The crash happened at about 6:15 a.m. when John Hannon, 25, of Patchogue, riding a 2015 Honda motorcycle westbound on Veterans Memorial Highway, drove into an eastbound 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck turning left onto Artic Avenue, the department said in a news release.

Hannon was pronounced dead at Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, the release said. The driver of the pickup, Kevin Andersen, 54, of Huntington, was treated for minor injuries at the same hospital.

Neither Andersen's nor Hannon’s relatives could be immediately reached for comment. More details of the crash weren’t provided.

It's at least the second fatal motorcycle crash in Suffolk since Sunday. A Massapequa man on a motorcycle was killed in Amityville Sunday night after colliding with a sedan, Suffolk police said.

In 2021, there were 389 motorcycle crashes in Suffolk, 20 of which were fatal, according to preliminary data for 2021 from the Albany-based Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research. In Nassau, there were 280 motorcycle crashes in 2021 with 11 resulting in fatal injuries, according to the data.

Statewide last year, 4,925 motorcycle crashes were reported, 201 of which were fatal, the data showed.
