A man crossing the street in Patchogue early Thursday was struck and seriously injured by a taxicab, Suffolk County police said.

Wilson Sisalima, 31, of Patchogue, was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, police said. The taxi driver, Dominick Thorne, 47, of Patchogue, was not injured, police said.

Thorne was driving north on West Avenue at Hammond Street about 4:15 a.m. when he hit Sisalima, who was running across Hammond Street going west to east, police said.

The vehicle, owned by Islandwide Taxi, was impounded for a safety check, police said. No charges were filed or summons issued and the investigation is continuing, police said. A man who answered the telephone Thursday at the taxi company's office in Patchogue declined to comment.
