A Patchogue man was killed early yesterday morning after he was struck by a vehicle while walking across a street in North Patchogue, Suffolk County police said.

The victim was identified as Florencio Cardanas, 58. He was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he died of his injuries.

Police said Manuel Tecum, 37, of North Patchogue, was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am north on Medford Avenue when his vehicle struck Cardanas, who was walking east across Medford Avenue just behind two other people, police said.

Tecum was not injured. The vehicle was impounded for a safety inspection and the investigation is continuing, police said.

Police said anyone with information about the crash could the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
