A man attempting to cross County Road 39 in Southampton on Friday morning was struck by a car and killed, Southampton Town police said.

The victim was identified by police as Paulino Zeledon Hernandez, 44, of Southampton.

Police said the driver, identified only as a woman, remained at the scene. She suffered minor injuries.

The accident occurred at 6:19 a.m. The road was closed in both directions between Tuckahoe Road and Sandy Hollow Road for about two hours, when the eastbound lanes were reopened.

Police said the westbound lanes were reopened about 10:30 a.m.

The victim was attempting to cross westbound to eastbound when he was struck by the Volkswagen sedan.

Police said no criminality is suspected, but investigators are asking anyone with information regarding the accident to call them at 631-702-2230.
