Peconic beach closed due to bacteria
Peconic Dunes Camp Beach in Peconic is closed to bathing due to higher-than-acceptable bacterial levels, according to a news release issued Wednesday by the Suffolk County health department.
However, Steers Beach in Northport has been reopened, the release said, as samples show the water quality to be acceptable. Tanner Park Beach, Copiague, remains closed.
For updates on affected beaches, call the county's beach hotline at 631-852-5822 or check www.suffolkcountyny.gov/health
