A Bay Shore man has died after he was struck Sunday night by a car while crossing the street, Suffolk County Police said.

Carlos Flores, 36, was crossing Fifth Avenue near Massachusetts Avenue in Bay Shore when he was hit at about 7:45 p.m. by a 2016 Nissan Rogue traveling north on Fifth Avenue, according to a news release. The driver of the Nissan, Karina Huerto, 22, of Central Islip, was not injured in the crash.

Flores was taken by Brentwood Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore were he was initially listed in critical condition, police said.

Police said in a news release Tuesday night that Flores had died from his injuries.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the police are investigating, according to the news release.
