Suffolk County police investigate the scene on Route 112 in Patchogue, where a pedestrian was struck and killed on Sunday. Credit: Dennis Berger

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an SUV early Sunday in Patchogue while trying to cross Route 112, Suffolk police said.

Jose Chicas-Diaz, 34, of Patchogue, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Just before 5 a.m. Sunday,  Chicas-Diaz was struck by a 2016 Ford Explorer as it headed south on Route 112 near Taber Avenue, police said.

The driver was identified as Segundo Tacuri, 58, of East Hampton, police said.
