Pedestrian dies after N. Patchogue crash
A woman struck by a car and critically injured Thursday night in North Patchogue has died from her injuries, Suffolk County police said Friday.
Melinda Resto, 29, of North Patchogue, died hours after being struck on North Ocean Avenue, police said. A North Patchogue Ambulance had taken her to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue.
Police said the accident occurred at 8:25 p.m. near Shaber Road, the street on which she lived.
Shawn Smith, 33, of North Patchogue, the driver of the 2001 Honda Civic that struck Resto, was not injured.
Police said Smith was driving north on North Ocean when he hit Resto.
Smith was not charged in the accident, but police said the investigation is continuing and ask anyone with information to call Fifth Squad detectives at 631-854-8552.
