Homeless woman, 66, hit by cab, dies in Port Jefferson Station
Suffolk County police are investigating the death of a homeless woman who they said was struck and killed by a cab early Sunday while walking in Port Jefferson Station.
Police identified the woman as Gail Oses, 66.
There were no other injuries and no charges have been filed.
Police said the accident happened shortly after 3 a.m. when Oses was walking on Route 112 at Crescent Drive and was struck by a southbound 2010 Crown Victoria owned by Lindy’s Taxi and driven by Brendan Hinst, 64, of Centereach.
Oses was taken by Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, where she was pronounced dead.
Police said Hinst had two male passengers in the taxi at the time of the accident and that the cab was impounded for a safety check.
A Lindy’s dispatcher said the cab was operated by the company but provided no comment.
