A Hampton Bays woman is in critical condition after being struck by a pickup truck in a Riverhead shopping center Sunday afternoon, police said.

Riverhead police were summoned at 12:47 p.m. to the parking lot of the King Kullen shopping center at 795 Old Country Rd. on reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle, police said.

First responders found Martha Garcia, 51, lying unconscious near a 2015 Chevy Silverado. She was initially taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center, police said, but "the severity of her injuries" required her to be airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center.

Police identified the driver as Emily Hill, 43, of Riverhead. Hill was driving through the parking lot when Garcia "stepped out in front of her vehicle and was struck," police said.

A hospital spokesman said Garcia is in critical condition.

No charges have been filed. Police said anyone who witnessed the accident should call Riverhead Police detectives at 631-727-4500, ext. 332.
