Suffolk County police on Monday identified the pedestrian killed by an alleged drunken driver in Lake Ronkonkoma.
Gary Kroll, 59, of 15 Rolan Ct., Lake Ronkonkoma, was struck and killed early Sunday by a man later charged with driving drunk, police said.
Thomas Vaughan, 43, 39 Cornelia Lane in Lake Grove, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer west on Express Drive North in Lake Ronkonkoma at 2:30 a.m. when he hit Kroll, who was in the traffic lane, police said.
Kroll was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician's assistant from the Suffolk County medical examiner's office, police said.
Vaughan was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. He was arraigned Sunday and released on bail, $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
He was scheduled to be back at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
Prosecutors said in court that Vaughan had a DWI conviction in September 1990, so the recent charge will likely be upgraded to a felony. Blood-alcohol tests are pending, prosecutors said.
