Boy, 13, hit by car, critically injured in Riverhead, cops say

A 13-year-old boy trying to cross the street was hit by a car and rushed to the hospital with critical injuries Friday, Riverhead Town police said.
The victim was hit by a northbound Toyota Camry on Osborne Avenue just before 3 p.m., police said.
The driver, Nadia Altman, 44, of Riverhead, was not injured and stayed at the scene, police said.
The teenager was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, then flown to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.
The Toyota was impounded for a safety check.
Riverhead detectives ask witnesses to call them at 631- 727-4500 ext. 326.
