A female pedestrian was struck by a car and seriously injured Thursday night at a North Patchogue intersection, police said.

Melinda Resto, 29, of North Patchogue, was hit near Shaber Road by a 2001 Honda Civic that was traveling north on North Ocean Avenue about 8:25 p.m., Suffolk police said.

Resto was taken by North Patchogue Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for treatment, police said.

The driver of the car, Shawn Smith, 33, of North Patchogue, was not injured and was not charged, police said.

Detectives said the investigation is continuing and asked that anyone who may have witnessed the incident contact Fifth Squad detectives at 631-854-8552.
