Pedestrian in Ronkonkoma struck by ambulette, hospitalized

A pedestrian was taken to a hospital with serious injuries after being struck by an ambulette in Ronkonkoma Wednesday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

Jacqueline Slavin, 53, of Ronkonkoma, was walking north on Ronkonkoma Avenue when an ambulette carrying five passengers hit her as it headed west on the Long Island Expressway service road, police said.

The crash, which happened at about 4 p.m., shut down the service road for more than two hours, police said.

Slavin suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries and was taken by the Ronkonkoma Fire Department to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

The ambulette’s driver and passengers were not injured, police said. The vehicle was inspected for a safety check.
