A man struck by a vehicle in Shinnecock Hills on Friday night has died, a Southampton Town police sergeant said.

The victim, Claude Eleazer, 37, was hit by a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz going westbound as he crossed the road in front of 801 County Road 39 just before 10:30 p.m. The road was shut down near Tuckahoe Road for two hours while an investigation was conducted, police said.

The pedestrian was taken to Southampton Hospital by Southampton Ambulance where he died, Sgt. Michael Joyce said.

The driver, an unnamed 26-year-old woman, was uninjured and stayed at the scene, Joyce said. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. No criminality was found and no arrests were made.
