Pedestrian killed crossing Horseblock Road in Farmingville
A man was killed Saturday night when he was struck crossing Horseblock Road in Farmingville, Suffolk police said.
William Merced, 29, of Medford, was driving a 2005 Hyundai eastbound on Horseblock Road when his vehicle struck the pedestrian who was crossing Horseblock Road near North Ocean Avenue at about 9:20 p.m., police said.
The pedestrian, who was not identified, was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue and pronounced dead. Police described the victim as being in his 50s, 5 feet 6 inches tall with a dark mustache.
Merced was not injured and no charges have been filed, police said. The vehicle was impounded for a safety inspection. The investigation is continuing.
