73-year-old pedestrian killed crossing Hempstead Turnpike in Farmingdale, police say

A 73-year-old man was struck by a pickup truck and killed as he attempted to cross Hempstead Turnpike Sunday evening in Farmingdale, Nassau County police said.
The identity of the victim was not immediately released.
Police said the victim was crossing Hempstead Turnpike east of West Gate when he was struck by a 2014 Ford pickup being driven by a 57-year-old man around 8:15 p.m. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced, police said.
Police said the driver remained at the scene and has not been charged.
The pickup truck went through a brake and safety check. Police said the investigation is continuing, but said no criminality is suspected at this time.
