A man was struck and killed by a minivan while crossing a Central Islip intersection Friday morning, Suffolk County police said.

The man, whose name has not been released by police pending notification of his family, was crossing East Suffolk Avenue near Wheeler Road when he was struck by a westbound 2013 Dodge minivan at approximately 4:35 a.m., according to a police release.

He was pronounced dead at South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, police said.

The driver of the Dodge was not charged in connection with the incident and was not injured, police said.

The intersection has crosswalks but the man was not inside one when he was struck, a police spokesman said in an email.

The Dodge was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
