A Lake Ronkonkoma woman crossing Portion Road Wednesday night was hit by a sport utility vehicle and killed, Suffolk County police said.

Denise Baglivi, 53, was crossing the road in Lake Ronkonkoma at about 6:30 p.m. when she was struck by a Ford Explorer, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Explorer was driven by Betty Heller, 77, of Farmingville, police said. She was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said, and Fourth Squad detectives are investigating.
