Suffolk County police and the Selden Fire Department and EMS respond to the scene of an accident where a pedestrian was hit by a van about 75 feet west of North Bicycle Path in Selden early Sunday, June 8, 2014. Police have identified the man struck and killed Sunday morning by a vehicle in Selden.

Sean Slattery, 56, of Smithtown was struck by a 2006 Ford van at 11:05 a.m. about 75 feet west of North Bicycle Path, police said.

The driver, Shuming Fan, 46, of Flushing, was heading east on Middle Country Road when his vehicle struck Slattery. Fan, who was not injured, remained at the scene.

Slattery was transported by Selden Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Suffolk's Sixth Precinct officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.

According to a Suffolk police spokeswoman, a preliminary investigation found no criminality was involved in the crash.
