Pedestrian on tracks hit by LIRR train
A pedestrian was hit and seriously injured by a westbound train, just east of the Babylon train station, late Wednesday night, the Long Island Rail Road said.
The person was not authorized to be on the tracks, LIRR spokeswoman Marjorie Anders said.
"It was not at a crossing," she said. "The trespasser was along the tracks."
The person was hit by the train that left Speonk at 9:59 p.m. and was due in Babylon at 11:07 p.m., she said. There were no details available on the person's exact condition.
The accident happened about 11 p.m. a quarter-mile east of the Higbie Lane crossing, Anders said.
Train traffic in both directions will be held up as investigators determine what happened. No other details were available.
