Suffolk County police are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Bay Shore early Sunday morning.

According to police, Jonathan Esposito, 30, of South Setauket, had pulled his vehicle over on the side of the eastbound Sunrise Service Road, just east of Fifth Avenue about 1:15 a.m. when he was struck by a 2017 Volkswagen.

Esposito was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was admitted for treatment of serious but nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Kristen Erlwein, 21, of Islip, was unhurt, police said. Information on the type of vehicle Esposito was driving was not immediately available.
