A Copiague pedestrian suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Amityville Village Tuesday night, Suffolk police said.

The victim, 72, was walking along the roadway on Merrick Avenue, also known as Route 27A, when a Pontiac hit him near Bayview Avenue about 7:20 p.m., police said.

The driver, 55, also of Copiague, was not injured and remained at the scene, police said.

The victim, whose name was not released, was being treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, police said.

The crash is being investigated by First Precinct detectives.
