A Middle Island man was charged Monday with the hit-and-run of a 3-year-old girl being pushed in a stroller across William Floyd Parkway in Shirley, Suffolk police said.
Scott Shea, 30, was driving a 2005 Jeep north on the parkway, south of Montauk Highway, when he struck the girl about 3:45 p.m., police said.
The girl, who was not identified, was airlifted by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.
Police could not immediately say who was pushing the girl's stroller across the street.
Shea was charged with leaving the scene of an accident. He was to be held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Tuesday.
Police temporarily closed a section of the parkway at Montauk Highway in both directions for the investigation, which continues.
