Two pedestrians were seriously hurt in Smithtown on Saturday night when a vehicle hit them as they crossed East Main Street, Suffolk County police said.

The two, a male and a female, were hit near Bank and Lawrence avenues at about 7:59 p.m. and taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, a police spokesman said.

The driver of the vehicle that hit them stayed at the scene, the spokesman said.

Police could not immediately provide more information about the crash or the victims.

The two were hit in the same block where an 11-year-old Smithtown girl, Courtney Sipes, was killed by a hit-and-run driver days before Thanksgiving.

Maureen Lambert, 20, turned herself in about 26 hours after the crash and has been charged with fleeing the scene.
