Person killed by LIRR train in Patchogue
An eastbound train struck and killed a person Monday night just east of the Patchogue station, LIRR said.
Service between Patchogue and Speonk on the Montauk branch has been temporarily suspended since the accident at 7:35 p.m., said LIRR spokeswoman Majorie Anders.
The person, who was not authorized to be on the tracks, was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.
The person was hit by the train that left Jamaica at 6:17 p.m. and was supposed to arrive at Montauk at 9:07 p.m., Anders said.
She said 75 people were on board but were not injured.
