Peter Mungo, 20, killed in Medford crash

Detectives are investigating a one-car crash that killed the driver Wednesday afternoon in Medford.
Peter Mungo, 20, of Medford, was driving a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe west on Jamaica Avenue at 12:45 p.m. when he "struck a mailbox and then a tree," Suffolk County police said in a news release.
Emergency Service officers extricated Mungo, who was taken by Medford Volunteer Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead.
Police impounded the Hyundai for a safety check.
Fifth Squad detectives are investigating. Anyone with information about the accident is urged to call detectives at 631-854-8552 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
