A scrap of paper offering a scribbled phone number helped Suffolk police detectives identify a pedestrian critically injured in a pre-dawn car crash Saturday in North Babylon, authorities said.

The number led to another North Babylon address, where police described the victim's clothing to a man there. The man said the victim was his uncle, police said.

Based on information provided by the nephew, police have concluded that the man is Kevin Vesoloski, 47, of North Babylon.

Vesoloski was walking at about 4:20 a.m. on Deer Park Avenue at Shipman Avenue when he was hit by a southbound 1998 Infiniti.

He was brought to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

Police said the driver is not expected to be charged.
