Plane from LI crashes in Conn.; no injuries
A small private plane carrying four people on a flight from Republic Airport in East Farmingdale crashed as it tried to land Monday at an airport in East Haddam, Conn., a Connecticut State police spokesman said. No one was injured.
Police had previously reported that the plane was en route to Republic Airport.
The plane, a single-engine Cessna, was attempting to land at Goodspeed Airport when it stalled and veered off the runway, Connecticut State police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said Tuesday.
None of the four people on board were injured, police said. Police did not identify them.
Police said the single-engine Cessna stalled while landing at the airport, veering from the runway and coming to a stop in a grassy area.
The airport's single runway is 2,120 feet long and 50 feet wide. The airport is surrounded on three sides by the Connecticut River and is just south of the East Haddam swing bridge.
Homes border the southwest edge of the runway, while a rolling hillside and stands of trees border the airport to the east and southeast, photos show.
Police said the investigation has been handed over to the Federal Aviation Administration for review.
