One of Long Island’s New Year’s Day polar plunges has been postponed due to ice on a local beach.
The annual Polar Bear Swim at Steers Beach in Northport organized by Boy Scout Troop 410 has been rescheduled for March 18.
According to an email from the troop, “there's is a two foot build-up of ice at the water line, with the ice sheet extending out for approximately 100 yards from the beach. This makes access to the water impossible for our event.”
New Year’s Day polar bear plunges in Point Lookout, Montauk, East Hampton and Wainscott are also scheduled.
