One person was injured when police said a driver “stepped on the gas instead of the brake,” crashing into the entrance of a store Monday evening in North Bellport.

The accident occurred at 7:25 p.m. at the Family Dollar store on Montauk Highway, Suffolk County police said.

Police did not release the name of the driver or the injured passenger. Police said the passenger, in the rear seat of the Nissan Altima, suffered “non-life-threatening” injuries in the single-car crash.

Firefighters from Bellport, Hagerman and Holtsville all responded to the scene, as did the Brookhaven Town fire marshal.

The extent of any structural damage was not known.
