Two residents were hospitalized -- and two cats died -- after a late-night house fire Wednesday in Deer Park, Suffolk County police said.

Police said a woman and a man were taken to the hospital after the fire was reported at 11:32 p.m. at the house on Grand Boulevard. The conditions of the two injured were not immediately known.

Fire officials said volunteers from Deer Park, North Babylon, West Islip, Dix Hills, Wyandanch and Brentwood all battled the blaze.

Arson Squad detectives are investigating the cause of the fire, which police said caused "extensive" damage to the house.
