Police: 6 face DWI-related charges

Southold Town Police arrested six people on suspicion of driving while intoxicated as part of a DWI task force crackdown Saturday night and early Sunday, police said.

Police set up two sobriety checkpoints and conducted "saturation patrols" as part of the effort by the East End STOP-DWI Task Force, which included assistance from New York State Police and the Suffolk County Parks Police.

Police said the suspected drunken drivers -- whose ages range from 22 to 70 -- were arrested, processed and held overnight, and arraigned Sunday morning.

Those facing DWI and other charges were:

Santos U. Ruiz, 36, of Peconic, charged with driving while intoxicated, consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and moving from a lane unsafely.

Richard A. Ramos-Hernandez, 32, of Greenport, charged with driving while intoxicated, unlicensed operator, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration.

James M. Tozar, 70, of Mattituck, charged with driving while intoxicated.

Gabriella C. Garren, 22, of East Marion, charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and inadequate lights on a motor vehicle.

Zachary Savona, 29, of Stamford, Conn., charged with driving while intoxicated.

Donna A. Johnson, 34, of Patchogue, charged with driving while intoxicated.

Police said they also charged two other people with marijuana possession. Police did not identify them and said they were released on appearance tickets.
