Police received 911 calls from neighbors reporting that a suspicious man was in the backyard of a home on Corbin Ave. about 1 p.m. Thursday.
Gill arrested Philip Mazzola, 21, of 16 Hollow Oak Dr., Patchogue, the driver of the Altima, police said. Lukas arrested Richard Crane, 21, of 30 Carver Blvd., Bellport, who was walking around the neighborhood, about one block away from Corbin Avenue, police said.
Police also allege Mazzola and Crane were responsible for another attempted burglary earlier Thursday on Shady Tree Lane in East Patchogue and committed three other burglaries — one incident on Dec. 20 on North Summit Street in Patchogue and two other incidents on January 8 on Knot Street and Denise Drive in East Patchogue.
Both men were charged with three counts of second degree burglary and two counts of second degree attempted burglary.
They are expected to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Friday.
Police said they believe the two men knocked on doors in the neighborhood looking for unoccupied homes and might be responsible for other burglaries that took place in the area in the last month.
Police are asking anyone with information to call anonymously to Crimes Stopper at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
