A Mastic Beach man was arrested Wednesday, charged with what Suffolk County police said was literally a hit-and-run accident in Mastic.

Police said a canine team found Sean Goodwin, 30, of 371 Orchid Dr., hiding in a nearby house he had broken into after fleeing the scene of the crash on foot just before 3 p.m. near the intersection of Mastic Road and Patchogue Avenue.

A 51-year-old woman driving the car Goodwin hit suffered serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries, police said. Her condition was not known Thursday.

Police said Goodwin was driving his 2000 Toyota Camry eastbound on Patchogue Avenue when he ran a red light -- and crashed into the Ford.

He then fled, police said.

After a search by a K-9 team, the Aviation Section and Emergency Services Unit officers, Goodwin was found at a home on Patchogue Avenue, police said.

Goodwin was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injuries, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree burglary, resisting arrest and operating a vehicle with a suspended license. He is scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
