A Mastic man stopped for a traffic infraction was arrested on a parole warrant after he attempted to run from an officer early Tuesday morning in Riverside, police said.

Brian A. Whitley, 50, was arrested on the outstanding warrant and for resisting arrest after the stop at 2:20 a.m. on Pine Street in Riverside, Southampton Town police said. The nature of the parole violation was not immediately clear on Tuesday morning.

Police said that Whitley "ran while the police officer was trying to make the arrest," but said he was caught after "a short foot pursuit."

Whitley faces arraignment Tuesday in Southampton Town Justice Court.
