Police responding to a 911 call generated by a commercial alarm at a Bay Shore laundromat arrested a 22-year-old man they said was responsible for a rash of recent burglaries.

James Maxwell of 10 Evans Place in Bay Shore was charged with six counts of third-degree burglary after Suffolk County police said he was seen fleeing the Dirt Buster Laundry on the Sunrise Highway service road in Bay Shore early Sunday morning. Police said Maxwell was tracked by a canine unit and arrested at 5:35 a.m. An investigation revealed Maxwell had previously burglarized the same laundromat in January, as well as four other local businesses in February, police said.

Maxwell faces arraignment Monday in First District Court in Central Islip.

Police did not say what was taken in the burglaries and did not say what evidence connected Maxwell to the incidents.
