Police are investigating the death of a man found Tuesday morning floating in Huntington Harbor near Halesite Park.
His death may have been accidental, but Suffolk police are waiting for the autopsy results of the county medical examiner's office, said Suffolk homicide Det. Sgt. John Best.
"There were no obvious signs of trauma on the body when he was pulled from the water," Best said.
The man, who appeared to be at least 60 years old, was spotted in the water about 8 a.m. by Huntington Harbormaster employees who had arrived for work, the detective sergeant said.
He was likely in the water less than 12 hours, Best said.
Marine Bureau officers also were requested at the scene.
The area is just west of where Youngs Hill Road intersects with New York Avenue and is not far from the Halesite Fire Department.
Anyone with information can call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
