Police: Boy, 6, hit by SUV in Huntington Station improving

A 6-year-old boy who was struck by a sport utility vehicle and seriously injured as he crossed a street with his siblings and mother in Huntington Station was improving Sunday and was expected to survive, Suffolk police said.
The boy suffered a serious head injury Saturday afternoon when he was hit as the driver, Ralph Williams, 49, of Westbury, turned left from Academy Place onto New York Avenue, police said.
One of the boy's sisters, 3, had a finger cut, while another sister, 11, had a minor head injury. Their mother, Dorothy Blue, 35, of Medford, and another child, 3, were not injured, police said.
The three siblings had been taken to Huntington Hospital, but the 6-year-old was transferred to Cohen Children's Medical Center in New Hyde Park, Queens.
Although police said the incident appeared noncriminal, an investigation is continuing.
